Netpots and Medium
Depending on what you are growing, you will want to use different sized netpots. These are like regular flowerpots with slotted sides to allow for maximum drainage.I used 3" netpots to grow the Jalipeno and Cyanne peppers as shown in the pictures. Even though these plants are fairly large, the 3" netpot worked out pretty well.
I used 1" Rockwool cubes soaked overnight in pH balanaced water to start the plants in a plastic tray with a lid. Once sprouted, I choose the best plants.
I filled each netpot 1/2 way with HydroTron, a volcanic based medium that works great for hydroponic systems. You can find this stuff, and the Rockwool cubes at your local Hydroponics store.
I cut six 3" holes into the top of each container and sealed the inside lip with weather seal, otherwise the container will leak around the lid. I used Rockwool to start the plant inside and when the roots where quite healthy, I transplanted the pepper into the netpot, surronding it with HydroLite. This setup allows for the Rockwool to wick some water, while the majority hits the netpot, then runs down, promoting root growth.
